This year, parish and Christian communities have been urged by Church leaders to raise awareness about the climate crisis and biodiversity emergency. This might include ritual, prayer, as well as advocacy to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
Now is the time for faith and community leaders to prepare for this upcoming season.
At Rahamim, a suite of programs is soon to be launched for 2019 including:
· Resources for individuals and communities on the themes of each of the four weeks (reflections, videos, meditations and actions)
· Our annual Spring Cosmology series online via Zoom with Sr Patricia Powell rsm
· The launch of two new online programs: “Climate Emergency and Pope Francis” and “The 8th Work of Mercy: Care for our Common Home”.
This year, the Season of Creation initiative was put forward by Cardinal Peter Turkson, the head of the Vatican’s development dicastery; Archbishop Job of Telmessos, on behalf of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew; Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, head of Anglican Communion; and Reverend Olav Fykse Tveit, the General Secretary of the World Council of Churches.
Cardinal Turkson’s dicastery said that the invitation sent to Catholic communities this year is closely tied to the upcoming Synod of Bishops on the Amazon region, beginning 6 October, which is the “first to focus on the application of integral ecology.”
